where the rivers turn in blue
and the trees in southern reds
sprout like blood from a seed
and the children play and scream

nothing above but stars and black

blue turns gold and wind turns dry leaves to flies
nothing ever leaves for good
nothing ever stays

I can feel fall when the dirt smelled like sugar

all the fields are asleep now
