Hurricane John came flying down
Stole all the trees from the ground
Snatched all the clouds from the sky — I don’t know why
The land’s now bare with uptorn earth
I’ve lost everything that was of any worth
It’s real funny how everything is there — and then it’s gone
I guess that’s how we lost our way
Let go of love and grew vain
But our individual lives are all the same
I guess we’re not so unique anyway
Hurricane John came flying down

Caught the whole land by surprise — I don’t know why
Everybody’s crying for what they’ve lost
But shouldn’t we be grateful for what we’ve got

I guess that’s how we lost our way
